How do I sell digital art?
Updated
Four different routes
Artists sell digital work four ways: the file as a download, physical prints through a print service, commissions, and assets other creators use such as brushes, textures and character bases. Assets are the most repeatable, because each one sells many times. Whichever route you take, state the licence plainly — it is half the product.
Selling files direct
Wall art, phone wallpapers, colouring pages and illustration packs all sell as downloads.
Include several sizes and say what the buyer may do with it. The licence is the product as much as the image.
Selling assets to other creators
Brush sets, textures, palettes and templates sell steadily to people who make things.
They take real skill to make and very little to support, which is a good combination.
Protecting your work
Watermark previews, not the delivered file. Keep a record of when you made each piece.
Some copying is inevitable. The artists who do well compete on output and relationship, not on defence.
