How does Whop work?

Updated

The short answer

Whop works in three moves. You create a community, add the apps that give it features, and attach a price to a product. A buyer pays on your page, Whop clears the card, and access is granted the moment the payment goes through. Your money collects in a balance you send to your bank.

For a seller

You make a community, which Whop calls a company. You give it a name and a page.

Then you add apps. Each app is one feature: a chat, a course, a forum, a store. You choose which ones your members get.

Last, you make a product with a price. That product is what people buy, and buying it unlocks the apps you attached to it.

For a buyer

A buyer lands on your page, sees what is included, and pays. Whop takes the card payment.

As soon as the payment clears, the buyer is let into whatever the product unlocks. If the product is a file, the file is delivered. If it is a community, they are inside it.

What happens after the sale

Whop keeps a record of every member and what they paid for. If somebody cancels or their card fails, their access is removed automatically.

Your money collects in a balance and is paid out to your bank. Whop handles the receipts and the refunds.

Where apps fit in

Anything Whop does not do out of the box, an app usually does. Apps are built by other developers and installed in a couple of clicks.

MKKT is one: it adds a store for downloadable files — ebooks, PDFs, templates — to a community that already exists.

FAQ

Questions, answered straight.

Who does the buyer pay, me or Whop?
Whop. It collects the payment, applies its fees, and holds the rest in your balance until you withdraw. Your name still appears on the product.
Is using Whop free?
Making an account, a community and a product page costs nothing. Whop takes a cut once a sale happens, and some apps charge their own fee on top.
Does Whop cost money to use?
Not to set up. The costs are a share of each sale, card processing, and any paid app you install. Whop shows an app’s price before you confirm the install.
When can I withdraw my first payment?
Once your identity check is done and the hold on recent sales has passed. Do the check the day you open the account and the first withdrawal is far less painful.
Can I sell a one-off file, not a subscription?
Yes. A product can be a one-time payment or a recurring one. A downloadable file is normally sold as a one-time payment.
Does Whop host my files?
Whop handles the payment and the access. Delivering a downloadable file is a job for a store app, which hosts the file and opens it to the buyer inside the community.

Sell it inside your Whop.
