Can you sell digital products on Etsy?
Updated
Yes, and it is a big category
Yes. Etsy has a dedicated instant-download listing type, and printables, planners, invitations, SVG cut files, clip art and templates sell there every day. The buyer pays and Etsy delivers the file automatically. Under Etsy’s Creativity Standards the design must be your own or made under your creative direction, any AI use has to be disclosed in the listing, and file size limits apply.
You never send anything by hand, and the buyer can re-download from their account.
What Etsy will not allow
Reselling files you did not make or licence, most mass-produced commercial assets, and anything breaking somebody else’s copyright.
Etsy’s Creativity Standards require the work to be yours or made under your creative direction, and any use of AI to be disclosed in the listing. Bought-in packs resold as your own, and undisclosed AI work, get listings deactivated and repeat offenders lose the shop.
The practical limits
There is a cap on file size and on the number of files per listing, so very large packs need a workaround.
You also cannot easily update a file for people who already bought it, which matters for anything you improve over time.
The real cost
Listing fees, transaction fees, payment processing and often ads on top. Stacked, they are heavier than a storefront.
You are paying for shoppers who are already browsing. That is a fair trade until you have your own audience.
