Can I legally sell Canva templates?
Updated
The short answer
In most cases you can legally sell a design you made in Canva. How you deliver it is the part that decides legality: under Canva’s content licence, a design containing Canva Pro content may only be sold as a Canva template link, not exported as a PDF or PNG and sold as a file. A design built only from free content can be exported and sold flat. Either way you may not resell Canva’s stock photos, videos, fonts or elements on their own.
Canva sets those terms and changes them. Canva’s content licence is the only authoritative source, so read it before you launch.
Flattened design versus raw asset
A flattened design is your layout, exported as a PDF, PNG or JPG. That route is open to you when the design uses only free content: the free pieces inside it become part of a finished work, which is the use Canva’s content licence is written for. Pull in any Pro content and the flat export stops being allowed.
Selling a stock photo, font or graphic on its own is redistributing Canva’s library. That is not allowed, and it is the mistake most sellers make.
Editable template links are different
Sharing an editable link lets the buyer open your design inside Canva and change it. For a design containing Pro content this is the only permitted way to sell it, because the content stays inside Canva and its creators keep being paid.
Check the current terms before you build a shop around editable links, and check again when you relaunch.
Free elements and pro elements
Pro and premium elements usually carry stricter terms than free ones. A design that is fine on a free account may not be fine when it leans on pro assets.
The safest template is built from your own work, or from assets you licensed yourself and can point to.
Never resell somebody else’s template
Buying a template does not give you the right to sell it on. The person who made it holds the copyright.
Keep a note of where every element in your product came from. If a buyer or a marketplace ever asks, that note is your answer.
