Do I need Whop if I already have a Discord?
Updated
The short answer
Discord and Whop do different jobs, so most sellers run both. Discord hosts the conversation. It cannot take a card, remember who paid, or remove someone whose payment failed. Whop handles the money and the access, then gives paid buyers a Discord role automatically and takes it back when they cancel.
What Discord does not do
Discord is a chat. It will not take a card, will not remember who paid, and will not remove somebody whose payment failed.
If you are charging for access to a server, you need something to handle the money and the access list. That is the gap Whop fills.
How they connect
You link your Discord server to your Whop. When somebody buys, they are given the paid role automatically. When they cancel, the role is taken away.
You keep running the community in Discord exactly as before. Nothing about the conversation moves.
Or move in entirely
Whop has its own chat, forums and courses, so you can drop Discord if you want everything in one place.
Most people do not. Their members are already comfortable in Discord, and moving costs members.
Selling files to a Discord audience
Chat is a bad place to sell a file. Links scroll away and nothing is searchable a week later.
A store gives the file a permanent page you can pin. MKKT adds one to a Whop community, and the link works inside Discord too.
