What do I do if nobody buys my digital product?

Updated

Find out which number is broken

If nobody is buying, work out which of three numbers is broken: how many people saw the page, how many clicked to buy, and how many finished paying. Almost always it is the first one, and the fix is traffic rather than a new page, a lower price or a better product.

The three cases need completely different fixes, so guessing wastes weeks.

Almost nobody saw it

This is the most common case by far. If the page had fewer than a few hundred visitors, you do not have a product problem yet.

Go and get traffic before you change anything else.

People saw it and did not click

The page is not answering their questions, or the product is not for the people arriving.

Show more of the inside, be more specific about who it is for, and check where the visitors are actually coming from.

They clicked and did not finish

Usually a checkout problem: an unexpected step, a currency issue, a payment method they do not have.

Buy your own product on a phone and watch where it gets awkward.

FAQ

Questions, answered straight.

Why is nobody buying my digital product?
Almost always because too few people have seen the page. Under a few hundred relevant visitors you do not yet have enough information to blame the page or the product.
How much traffic is enough to judge?
A few hundred relevant visitors. Below that, sales are mostly luck, and any change you make is a guess rather than a fix.
People visit but never click buy. What is wrong?
Either the page is not answering their questions or the visitors are the wrong people. Show more of the inside, and check where your traffic comes from.
They click buy and do not finish. Why?
Usually checkout: an unexpected step, a currency issue, a payment method they do not have. Buy your own product on a phone and watch where it gets awkward.
Should I drop the price?
Almost never first. Low sales are rarely a price problem, and a cut is hard to undo once buyers have seen the lower number.
When should I give up on a product?
After real traffic from the right people and a fair attempt at fixing the page. Then carry what you learned into the next product.
