Should I charge once or monthly?
Updated
The rule
Charge once for something finished, and monthly for something you keep doing. A subscription is a promise to keep delivering — new content, live calls, a community, ongoing updates — and members leave the moment that stops. For a first product, a one-off price is almost always the safer choice.
If you are not sure you will keep delivering, do not make the promise.
Why sellers reach for subscriptions
Recurring revenue looks stable and makes the numbers easier to plan around.
What it hides is the work. Churn is relentless, and every month you have to earn the fee again.
What works as a subscription
A community with real conversation. New content every month. Live calls. Ongoing updates to a tool people rely on.
Anything where the buyer would notice if you stopped.
A good middle path
Sell the product once. Offer an optional subscription for updates, support or a community on top.
Buyers who want the ongoing thing opt in, and nobody feels trapped.
