How do I sell on Gumroad?

The short answer
To sell on Gumroad, create a free account and click to add a new product. Next, upload your digital file, write a short description, and set your price. Finally, connect your bank details for payouts and publish your link. Buyers do not need an account to buy your product from your link.
Setting up your account
Gumroad was started in 2011 in San Francisco by Sahil Lavingia. To get started, go to their website and sign up with your email. You do not have to pay a monthly fee to keep your account open.
Before you can get paid, add your payout information in your account settings. Depending on where you live, you can connect your bank account or PayPal. Make sure your name and tax details match your bank records so payouts go through without any delays.
Adding and pricing your product
Click on the Products tab in your dashboard and choose new product. Pick the type of item you want to sell, such as a digital file, an ebook, or a newsletter. Give your product a clear name and set your price.
Next, upload your content. You can upload files directly or send customers to a download page after checkout. Add a clear cover image and write a simple summary of what the buyer receives. When everything looks right, click publish to make the product live.
Sharing your link and delivering files
Once published, Gumroad gives you a unique web link for your product. You can share this link on social media, send it in an email, or paste it on your personal website. Anyone who clicks the link can purchase right away without creating an account.
If you sell files on Whop instead, you can use the MKKT app. Sellers upload a file, set a price or make it free, and get a store link buyers can use without a Whop account.
How fees and taxes work
Gumroad charges no monthly fee. Instead, it takes a cut plus a small fixed amount for each direct sale, with card processing on top. Sales that come through the Gumroad Discover marketplace carry a much bigger cut that already includes processing. Check their pricing page for current numbers.
Gumroad has been a merchant of record since January 1, 2025. This means Gumroad collects and pays sales tax and VAT for you. You do not need to handle sales tax yourself in the states or countries where your buyers live.
