Yes, several platforms cost nothing to set up and nothing in a month where you sell nothing. They take a larger share of each sale instead. So they are free to start and free while idle, but not free when the money moves — and card processing is charged everywhere regardless.
That is the honest version of every "free" claim in this category.
That is usually the right trade
While your sales are small, a percentage costs far less than a monthly subscription you pay regardless.
Start on the free plan. Move to a paid plan only when the arithmetic says the flat fee is cheaper.
What is genuinely not free
Card processing. Every processor charges per transaction, on every plan, everywhere. Nobody absorbs that.
Some platforms also charge for payouts to certain countries. Check before you build pricing around it.
Free plans to be careful with
Any that cap how many products you can list, limit file size, or refuse to export your buyer list.
A cut of the sale is a fair trade. Holding your customer list hostage is not.
