What is the best website to sell digital products?
Updated
Most of them do the same thing
Every serious selling website gives you a product page, a checkout, file delivery and a dashboard. The real differences are four: how it charges, who handles sales tax, whether you can export your buyers and leave, and whether it sits where your audience already is.
Feature counts on comparison tables tell you almost nothing.
One: how it charges
Percentage of each sale, a flat monthly fee, or both. Percentage suits low volume; flat suits high volume.
Work out where the crossover is for your own expected sales and pick the side you are actually on.
Two: who handles sales tax
Some platforms act as merchant of record and handle digital sales tax worldwide. Others leave it entirely to you.
This is worth more than any feature on a comparison table, and almost nobody checks it before signing up.
Three and four: exit and fit
Can you export your buyers and leave? And does it sit where your audience already is?
If you run a community, a store built into it beats a better-looking website your members have to travel to.
